Baptism

Baptism

Thank you for choosing to baptize your child at The Magdalene. Baptism is a Sacrament of faith that brings your child into the Christian community and makes him/her one with Christ, our Lord and Savior. In doing so, he/she becomes a member of our parish family as well.

The parish offers Baptisms on Saturdays and Sundays between the hours of 12:30 and 2:30 pm in the church.

To make this sacrament meaningful and to ensure proper documentation of the event for our parish records, we ask you to please fulfill the following requirements:

REGISTRATION

If you are previously registered, attending Mass and supporting the parish, you can call the rectory to make an appointment with the Fr. Tim to schedule your child’s baptism. Please print and complete the form below and bring it with you on the day of your appointment.

BAPTISM REGISTRATION FORM

DOCUMENTS NEEDED

The following documents are needed in order to perform the baptism.

  1. Birth Certificate. Please bring your child’s original birth certificate to your appointment. We will make a copy and return the original to you immediately.

GODPARENTS

Since you are choosing to have your child baptized in the Church, we support your decision by helping to guarantee that the godparents you choose are suitable for ensuring the spiritual and religious growth of your child as a Catholic Christian, so you are to choose godparents who meet these requirements, and not simply for the likability or relationship to you.

All godparents must submit a Sponsor Certificate, which they can acquire from the parish office of the church where they are members. They are to be turned in no later than two weeks before the scheduled baptism date. Otherwise, the baptism will be deferred until the paperwork is handed in.

The Church only requires one godparent, but if you choose two, one must be male and the other female.

All godparents must fulfill the following requirements:

  1. Be active members of the Catholic Church, meaning they are a registered parishioner, a practicing Catholic and is able to serve as a witness for Baptism;
  2. Have received all the sacraments of initiation, i.e. Baptism, Eucharist and Confirmation;
  3. Be at least 16 years of age;
  4. Be free of all canonical impediments (for example, being married outside of the Church).

SUGGESTED OFFERING

There is no fee for the Sacrament; however, in Thanksgiving to God for having your child baptized, an offering is requested.

LETTER OF PERMISSION FROM YOUR PARISH

If this is not your home parish, you must also submit to the parish office a letter from your parish priest giving us permission to baptize your child here.  Please note that there is a three-month waiting period for those not registered with The Magdalene.

The church will provide the Baptismal candle and a Baptismal garment (bib).  Once the Sacrament of Baptism Ceremony is completed, a Baptismal certificate will be mailed to your home.

Thank you for your cooperation! May God bless you and your loved ones, now and forever!
